On this trip to Busan, besides planning popular spots like Haeundae, Gwangalli, and the Gijang coast, I also really wanted to try something different from the usual sightseeing itinerary. Before leaving, I saw SMB Wellness Center’s “A Little Journey in a Teacup” tea ceremony wellness class on Creatrip, and I was instantly drawn to it.
Normally when I travel, I’m rushing from place to place, rushing to take photos, and rushing to taste all the food, so it’s rare to get a chance to slow down. So I booked a tea ceremony experience, hoping to leave myself a quiet moment during the trip.

After arriving at SMB Wellness Center, what surprised me most was the view outside the window.
The huge floor-to-ceiling windows face straight out to the sea, so you can enjoy the scenery of the Gijang coast right from the tea table. The sky was a bit overcast that day, but the seascape woven together with the distant mountains was still incredibly soothing.
The tea set and utensils were already laid out on the table. There weren’t any overly flashy decorations, instead it felt simple, quiet, and comfortable.
Even before the class started, I couldn’t help but slow my breathing and zone out at the view for several minutes.
It felt completely different from shopping around downtown, like I’d stepped away from the busy pace of travel for a while.

Once the class began, the instructor first introduced the tea leaves and the tea ware we would be using today.
Then, step by step, they guided everyone through the brewing process.
From warming the cups, to pouring the water, to waiting for the leaves to slowly unfurl, every step requires patience.
At home, I usually just drop a tea bag into hot water, I rarely truly experience the process of making tea.
Thanks to the instructor’s explanation, I realized that making tea can also be a way of having a quiet conversation with yourself.
While waiting for the aroma to bloom, there’s no need to rush to do anything, you simply focus on the present moment.
It looks like a simple experience, but it brings a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in a long time.

While waiting for the tea to steep, I also took a quick look around the center.
The display shelves were stocked with various wellness and skincare-related products.
The space uses warm tones overall, with soft lighting, it makes you feel relaxed the moment you walk in.
Unlike a typical spa, it doesn’t feel overly commercial.
Instead, it feels more like a place where you can pause for a while and settle your mind.
Finding a space like this during a trip is honestly pretty rare.

Even the wash area showed how thoughtful the center is.
Minimal stone materials paired with gentle lighting, everything felt clean and comfortable.
A lot of people might think a sink area isn’t anything special, but to me, the places where you notice the details most easily are often corners like these.
From how the space is maintained to the overall atmosphere, you can feel that what they want to offer travelers isn’t just a class, but a complete relaxation experience.

After the experience, I also took a commemorative photo at the entrance.
SMB Wellness Center offers more than just tea ceremony classes, they also have scalp care, aromatherapy, mind and body relaxation, and other services.
If your itinerary is on the more laid-back side, it’s actually a great idea to set aside half a day to come and try it.
Especially for travelers who have already been to Busan several times, I’d recommend adding an in-depth experience like this to your plans.
A trip spent with yourself
I used to think traveling meant constantly hopping between attractions and taking photos.
It wasn’t until I joined this tea ceremony class that I realized travel can also be quiet.
In just 40 minutes, I wasn’t endlessly scrolling on my phone, and I wasn’t rushing to take photos for check-ins.
I simply watched the tea leaves slowly open, breathed in the light tea aroma, and enjoyed the ocean view outside the window.
That feeling of being present in the moment doesn’t actually come around very often in everyday life.
When I took my first sip of hot tea, my body seemed to relax along with it.
That comfort wasn’t an instant thrill, it was a quiet calm that slowly settled in.
If you love bustling tourist spots, this might not be the most attention-grabbing item on your itinerary.
But if you’re like me and want to leave a bit of time for yourself while traveling, I truly recommend this experience.
Especially when traveling alone, you can feel even more of the healing comfort that tea ceremony brings.
Compared to buying more things or rushing to more attractions, what I remember most is the ocean view outside the window that day, and that faint tea fragrance.
This SMB Wellness tea ceremony class had no flashy performances and no adrenaline activities, yet it became the most special memory from my Busan trip.
Travel doesn’t always have to mean charging forward.
Sometimes, stopping for a moment, brewing a pot of tea by the sea view, and really taking in the scenery in front of you is also a wonderful way to travel.
If I come back to Gijang in Busan in the future, I think I’ll return here again to give myself another quiet, comfortable, healing moment.
