One-day trip to Hongcheon Alpaca World: a healing adventure surrounded by adorable alpacas

On this independent trip to Korea, I made a special plan to visit Hongcheon Alpaca World (Alpaca World). I originally thought it would be just a typical animal farm, but after actually visiting, I realized it is not only a place where you can get up close with alpacas, it feels more like a healing park that combines natural scenery, eco education, and family-friendly activities. If you love animals, you will genuinely not want to leave.

Right after entering the park, the first thing I saw was the large “I ♥ ALPACA” landmark. With blue skies, fluffy clouds, and lush green mountain views, it instantly felt like a vacation before the tour even began. Hongcheon is located in the mountainous area of Gangwon-do, so the air is incredibly fresh, completely different from the busy, energetic city vibe of Seoul. Once I stepped into the park, my mood gradually relaxed too.
The park is bigger than I expected, with walking trails along the way so you can take your time, no need to rush. It is perfect for a half-day trip, or even a full day. The weather was amazing that day, blue skies paired with green forested mountains, every quick snapshot looked as beautiful as a postcard.

The first time I saw an alpaca up close during the visit, I honestly thought it was unbelievably cute. Their fur looks fluffy and soft, and their round eyes always have this innocent, curious expression. I assumed alpacas would be more skittish around people, but once I interacted with them, I found they are actually very friendly with visitors.
Some alpacas slowly walk up to the fence, curiously watching what everyone is doing, while others stroll around sunbathing, totally unfazed by people looking at them. Each alpaca seems to have its own personality, which makes the whole visit even more fun.
The most interesting part is that when you are holding feed, they will come right up to you and look at you with those hopeful eyes, that sense of interaction is so healing.

There are quite a lot of alpacas in the park, and they come in different colors. You will see white, beige, brown, and even black alpacas.
Seeing a black alpaca for the first time was an especially pleasant surprise, since I usually associate alpacas with lighter colors. With alpacas of different colors gathered together, it creates a really interesting scene.
Some alpacas like staying near the crowds, while others are a bit shy and prefer to stand farther back and observe. Staff members also patrol from time to time to look after the animals, so overall the environment is maintained very well.
Watching these animals live so comfortably, you can really feel how much care the park puts into their living environment.

Besides the feeding experience, there are also lots of great photo spots inside the park.
The alpacas in this area are practically like models, standing by the lawn and stone-paved paths, with mountains in the distance and blue skies with white clouds behind them. Quite a few visitors were taking photos here that day.
What is most fun is that the alpacas do not try to avoid the camera at all, they often wander into the frame on their own, adding an unexpected surprise to your photos.
If you like photographing animals or natural scenery, this place is seriously photogenic. You do not need to pose, just wait quietly and you can capture plenty of natural, adorable moments.

As you continue walking deeper into the park, you will also see a cute, oversized alpaca installation.
The white alpaca sculpture stands in the middle of the grass, making it a must-take photo spot for many visitors. It is eye-catching even from far away, and it adds a bit of a fairytale vibe to the whole park.
Many families and kids stop here to take photos. Seeing children excitedly running around the alpaca sculpture also fills the park with a joyful atmosphere.
In fact, Hongcheon Alpaca World is not just a zoo, it feels more like an outdoor space that blends nature and leisure. Even if you do not feed the animals, simply taking a walk around the park is really comfortable.

One area inside the park that really left an impression on me was the message wall.
The wall is covered with drawings and well-wishes left by visitors from all over the world, with layers of notes packed closely together, creating a truly unique sight.
If you look closely, you will realize travelers from many different countries have visited here. Some people draw their favorite alpaca, some write about their trip, and others leave hopes for the future.
Reading these heartfelt messages gives you this feeling that travel connects people from different places.
This wall is not just a photo spot, it feels like a place that records countless travelers’ memories.
Looking back on this trip to Hongcheon Alpaca World, the biggest feeling I took away was “healing.”
Modern life moves fast, and the pressure of work and everyday life often leaves people exhausted. But once you come here and watch alpacas calmly grazing and strolling around, it feels as if time slows down too.
No noisy traffic, no packed crowds, just a mountain breeze, blue skies and white clouds, and adorable animals keeping everyone company.
This simple, relaxing feeling is one of the most precious parts of traveling.
If you come with kids, they can enjoy more interaction through close-up animal experiences. If you are traveling as a couple, there are plenty of romantic and cute photo spots. Even if you are traveling solo, you can still find your own quiet time to unwind in nature.
Hongcheon Alpaca World may not be as thrilling or lively as a big theme park, but it has its own charm. The adorable alpacas, wide-open natural scenery, comfortable walking trails, and warm, hands-on experiences all made this trip truly memorable.
If I get the chance to travel to Korea again in the future, I would still happily make time to come back here. Some places are memorable for their grandeur, but others are remembered for how they make you feel.
And Hongcheon Alpaca World is exactly the kind of healing spot that lets you leave with a smile, and remember it for a long time.
