Seoul So Yee Haircut Experience|Zero communication gaps! Finally found a Korean female stylist who really gets me✨
Every time I come to Seoul, I always set aside time to try local hair salons. After all, the vibe and layering of Korean-style haircuts are widely seen as the gold standard of the industry. This time at Chop Hair, Nonhyeon branch, Teacher So Yee gave me this high-layered long haircut, and it was easily the most perfect, no-weakness, full-marks experience out of all my Korea haircut trips! From communicating about style, to technique, to the final result, everything was flawless and completely exceeded my expectations. She is truly a must-visit hidden gem female stylist in Seoul!
So many girls understand this, the biggest anxiety about getting a haircut is never the price, it’s “miscommunication.” Even when you bring reference photos and explain what you like, many stylists still do it their own way, resulting in messy layers, a failed length, a cut that makes your face look bigger, or a flat crown. But Teacher So Yee had none of these issues. As a female stylist with an amazing understanding of what women find flattering, her greatest strength is how patient and empathetic she is, and how well she understands what everyday people actually want when they say they want to look better.
After I sat down, she didn’t rush to start. Instead, she spent more than ten minutes talking through everything with me in detail. I shared the soft Korean vibe I wanted, the length I wanted to keep, and the heaviness I didn’t want. I also explained my hair concerns: my hair is on the softer side, lies flat against the scalp, my side profile lines don’t look smooth enough, and it’s hard to style volume day to day. Teacher So Yee listened seriously the whole time, never brushing me off or cutting me off. She also took my face shape, features, hair condition, and daily styling habits into account, and gently gave professional suggestions for improvements. She even used a comb to lightly measure on my head, explaining in Korean with simple English where to add layers and where to narrow it down. It completely removed that “I can’t explain it, I’m scared it’ll be ruined” anxiety.
When she started cutting, she first adjusted the parting, repeatedly combing through my hair to make sure every length difference was precise down to the millimeter. She didn’t chop randomly with big dramatic cuts, instead she worked by sections and layers, trimming strand by strand. Especially for the airy texture at the ends, she used point-cutting to create a natural flow, not that blunt, heavy one-cut look. Throughout the process, after a few snips she would have me stand up and turn around, checking the result from the side and back from multiple angles, and asking if the length and layers felt right. She never just “kept going no matter what.”
When blow-drying, she also taught me how to lift the crown and create natural volume so my hair wouldn’t cling to my cheeks. After drying, she lightly ran a straightener through the ends, and the shape instantly looked more dimensional. Not only did it make my face look smaller, it also gave the layers at the ends more airiness, soft and feminine without being boring.
Look at the back, I was so pleasantly surprised I was speechless! The high layers look incredibly natural, and the textured ends aren’t messy at all, they actually frame the silhouette perfectly. My hair instantly looks fuller, the crown volume is just right, and there’s zero flat-to-the-scalp problem. The proportions of length, curve, and layers are so well controlled. It’s exactly that gentle, K-drama heroine vibe. From the back it looks super sleek, clearly layered but not chaotic, and it’s so easy to manage for daily blow-drying, even a quick dry gives natural volume!
After the cut, it didn’t just flatter my face shape, it also made my overall vibe look much softer. In photos, both side and back angles look amazing. Teacher So Yee truly understood the result I wanted, with zero communication gaps, and her technique is beyond criticism. If you’re coming to Seoul for a Korean-style high-layer haircut but worry about not being able to communicate clearly or ending up with a bad cut, you have to book Teacher So Yee, it’s a totally safe choice!
