Every time I pull out my ID card, health insurance card, or passport, I can't help but think, 'How did I end up looking like that in the photo...🥲'
When I took ID photos in Taiwan I was usually pretty casual about it, mostly rushing to a photo booth and snapping one quickly, but the results were either stiff expressions or strange lighting, what was meant to be a normal photo ended up as a slightly creepy ID photo 😂
Sometimes cheeky friends spot them and everyone pulls out their ID photos to tease each other, which is both hilarious and a little helpless 🤣
No way! No way! No way! I can't let my ID photo be this 'terrifying' anymore!
So on this trip to Korea, I specifically added 'get a Korean-style ID photo' to my itinerary, deciding to try out Korea's ID photos 🤭
As a big fan of Creatrip, I of course used Creatrip to pick a shop this time too, it’s such a time- and effort-saver for me👍🏼 My first criteria for choosing a place is that it has to be close to the hotel, ideally within walking distance or reachable by taxi🚕 within 5 minutes, so after the shoot if I’m tired I can go back to the hotel to rest before heading out again🤭
This time I went to PN Studio Hongdae to take a Korean-style ID photo, and I booked the Premium ID photo plus makeup and hairstyling.
The studio is actually easy to find, and after confirming your reservation when you walk in, you’ll be taken to the makeup room to start makeup and hairstyling.
Actually before booking I hesitated about adding makeup and hairstyling, but then I thought, since I was getting a Korean-style ID photo, of course I should pair it with Korean makeup and hairstyling to have the full Korean-style ID photo experience, so I ended up choosing the makeup and hairstyling!
The stylist first talked with us about the makeup look and styling direction we wanted, and only started applying makeup after confirming it. Throughout the process the stylist kept checking our thoughts to see if any adjustments were needed, the whole experience felt very comfortable and relaxed, and it was also very efficient 👍🏼
After hair and makeup are finished, you’ll move into the photo area to start taking pictures, and the photographer will patiently guide your expressions and angles during the session.
After the shoot I went straight to the computer to pick photos. I have terrible decision paralysis, so in the end I just told the photographer, 'Pick whichever one you like!' 😂
Before retouching, the photographer will ask which retouching style you want, and once confirmed, they will start retouching.
As I watched from the side I was honestly so shocked, I even thought he was playing CS 😂
The retouching was insanely fast and the details were so refined, I was totally stunned watching the whole process, you really have to see it in person if you get the chance 🤭
After retouching is finished, if you have an iPhone you can send the digital file straight to your phone using AirDrop, then go downstairs to pick up the printed photos 👍🏼
Although this shop doesn't offer Chinese translations, the makeup artists, stylists, and photographers all speak good English, so communicating in simple English is no problem.
This time I booked a session for my husband and me together. At first he said men probably didn’t need makeup and hair styling, but I had it done for him anyway 😆 When we saw the final photos we both loved them, they looked really great, so we immediately sent them to our friends to share 🤭
We really like this studio's shooting style, we've already decided we'd love to come back next time to take a portrait (profile) photo ☺️
