This time I brought my daughter to Busan, and I already had a top item on my must-do list, visiting the Gamcheon Culture Village, praised as the 'Korean Santorini.' Although Busan has many sea views, it’s the stacked, block-like colorful houses of Gamcheon-dong that most touch a traveler’s childlike heart.
For me, coming here without wearing a Hanbok at least once would feel like missing a bit of ritual. Watching my daughter grow from a little girl into a young teenager, I wanted to take advantage of this trip to put on elegant Hanboks with her, walk through these alleys full of history and artistic atmosphere, and leave behind mother-daughter photos that are ours for life. Today I just want to simply share how we picked our favorite Hanboks in Gamcheon-dong, and those dreamy photo spots tucked around corners that had us snapping nonstop.
When we arrived at the Gamcheon-dong entrance, the air carried a faint salty sea breeze. We headed straight to a nearby hanbok rental shop, and the moment we opened the door, the room full of vivid colors instantly overwhelmed us with choices.

The shop had so many styles I lost count, from traditional red-and-white combos to modern lace and gold-thread designs. I picked out a dusty lavender Hanbok for my daughter, the skirt sprinkled with delicate embroidery that sparkled in the sunlight. The staff were very skilled, carefully braiding my daughter’s hair and adding a pearl hairpiece and tassels, and my daughter looked at herself in the mirror with pure delight. I chose a more elegant sky-blue set, a tone that really pops against Gamcheon-dong’s colorful backdrop.
Stroll through the colorful maze: every step is a scene
After changing into our outfits, we officially stepped into this magical mountain town. Gamcheon-dong's charm lies in its irregular steps and alleys, and walking in a full-skirted Hanbok along the cobblestone paths really feels like stepping into a time tunnel.
We walked slowly up the main pedestrian street, colorful art installations visible everywhere along the way. My daughter, wearing a pinkish-purple Hanbok, walked ahead, her back framed by the creative shops on both sides, and I couldn’t stop taking photos, wanting to capture every glance back she made.

As we walked, the sunlight grew brighter, shining on our delicate fabrics. Another set of sky-blue Hanbok looked stunning through the lens, especially against the mountainside village backdrop, that sense of elegance was obvious.

When you visit Gamcheon-dong, the spot you absolutely, absolutely cannot miss is The Little Prince and Fox statue that overlooks the whole cultural village. Even though there was quite a line, when we finally stood beside the Little Prince, the visual impact made the wait completely worth it.
From the Little Prince's point of view, the whole swath of colorful houses rolls down the hillside like waves, and in the distance is the deep blue Busan Port. We took several sets of photos here, whether shooting from behind to create a sense of 'the distance,' or facing forward for a portrait with the Little Prince, each shot looked like an illustration from a fairy tale book.

Next to it there's also a moon-shaped installation, sitting on it for photos feels like you're flying into the clouds. The lighting here is excellent, you don't need any filters, the original photo is gorgeous enough to make you squeal.

Besides the well-known major sights, Gamcheon-dong's charm is actually hidden in those unassuming little alleys. We left the crowded main pedestrian street and walked up to the quieter, higher areas.
On a terrace, my daughter threw her arms wide, embracing the beautiful view with excitement. In that moment, I saw freedom and joy blossom in her smile. Layer upon layer of small houses filled the background, and under the blue sky and white clouds, the pink Hanbok looked especially bright and charming.

Seen from higher up, Gamcheon-dong looks like a giant palette. The rooftops are painted in all kinds of colors — red, green, yellow — blending together without clashing, giving the whole place a wonderful sense of life.

We also found a low wall covered with painted little fish and ornaments, each wooden plank seeming to hold a traveler's story or a local's blessing. These small touches added a delicate, human warmth to Gamcheon-dong, beyond its grand scenery.

Even a simple roadside decoration, or a richly textured architectural wall, can become a stylish, character-filled photo as long as you find the right angle and sit down.

This Gamcheon-dong Hanbok experience ended perfectly in the sunset glow. When we returned the clothes, our legs were a bit tired, but our hearts were full of happiness.
For me, the best part of travel isn’t how many sights you visit, it’s how you feel the place. Putting on Hanbok, we’re no longer just hurried tourists, we become part of the colorful scenery. Watching my daughter grin foolishly at the camera, I knew this time-traveling dress-up adventure had already become the brightest page in her memories.
If you're planning a trip to Busan, be sure to save an afternoon for Gamcheon-dong. Put on your prettiest Hanbok, wear your brightest smile, and wander through those colorful alleys to write your own fairy tale.
May every trip bring you face to face with the happiest, most free version of yourself amid colorful scenes!
