Sharing my experience with the skin consultation at the Sinchon New World Jin Yangji Dermatology.

On this trip to Korea, I planned something I’d been wanting to try but felt a little nervous about: my first aesthetic consultation in Korea. Before leaving I had a lot of worries, like will there be a language barrier? Will I be pressured into buying something? Will I understand the medical terms? But since I was already in Korea, I decided to be brave and give it a try.
For this trip I specifically booked consultations at two clinics, planning to first understand my skin condition before deciding whether to schedule any treatments. One of them is Shinsegae Geumyangje Dermatology in Seomyeon. I chose this clinic because it was conveniently located near the hotel I was staying at, within walking distance, which is really handy for independent travelers. I also saw good reviews on the platform, and they offer free consultations, which is reassuring for medical aesthetic beginners.

When I arrived at the clinic that day, my first impression was very good. The reception area was spacious and bright, the overall environment clean and tidy, giving a professional but not intimidating feeling. Certification signs were visible on the walls, which made me feel more reassured. The nervousness I felt before setting out was actually already half gone after stepping into the lobby.
When I checked in I noticed the counter had a Chinese-language service sign, which is really thoughtful for foreign travelers. The staff were gentle and didn’t make me feel rushed or pressured. Next they asked us to put our coats and personal items into a locker with a combination lock. Having a place to securely store my passport and cash while traveling made me feel much more at ease.

Before the formal consultation, you first go to the cleansing area to remove makeup. When I saw the sink area I actually breathed a sigh of relief, it was very clean, towels neatly stacked, supplies organized, and the small details were well taken care of. Even though I felt a little shy facing professional equipment without makeup, since I was there for testing I decided to let go of my worries.

After removing makeup, a professional device is used for skin analysis, using data to assess pore condition, moisture and oil balance, pigmentation, and elasticity. I was a bit surprised when I saw the results, I had thought I was diligent with my skincare, but the data showed there were still many areas to improve. At that moment I felt it was really important to learn about the condition early.
Next, you'll be brought into the consultation room.

The hallway lighting is soft, and the space is designed to be quiet and comfortable, so it doesn't feel stressful. The director explains the test report one on one, with Chinese translation available to help, so communication is smooth throughout. The director suggests treatments based on the data, and also asks about your budget and schedule.
I honestly said this was only the second day of my trip, and I wanted to first find out which treatments would suit me, and if I decided to go ahead I’d like to schedule them for the day before I fly home. I was a bit worried when I said it, wondering if they’d push me to have something done right away. But there was no pressure at all. Instead, they gently said I could take my time to think it over and just make an appointment once I was sure.
At that moment I really breathed a sigh of relief. I wasn't pressured into buying anything, and I wasn't rushed to make a decision, the whole process was rational and professional. For a medical-aesthetic newbie, that sense of reassurance is really important.
The entire consultation took about an hour and a bit, the pace was just right, not drawn out and not rushed. Each step was explained clearly, and any questions were answered patiently. I left the clinic feeling much more relaxed than when I arrived. My sense of distance toward medical aesthetics in Korea also shortened a lot because of this experience.
The clinic is right in the busy Seomyeon shopping district, and after the consultation we walked straight to a nearby dinner spot. That day we chose Mizaanwang Korean BBQ.

The meat looked fresh and hearty when it arrived, and paired with the condiments and side dishes it really whet our appetites. The best part of Korean BBQ is the table-side service, where staff grill the meat for you and manage the heat, so we only need to focus on chatting and enjoying the food.

The grilled pork belly has a slightly crispy outside and stays juicy inside, and paired with the soup and side dishes it’s really satisfying. After a whole day, from the aesthetic consultation to enjoying the barbecue, the schedule was just right. That feeling of fitting different experiences into the trip is actually very fulfilling.
This consultation at Shinsegae Geumyangje Dermatology gave me an initial understanding of medical aesthetics in Korea. I was worried it might feel distant, but the actual experience was friendly and professional. Using devices to analyze my skin and then assessing, rationally, whether to proceed felt very reassuring.
If it’s your first time visiting Korea and you’re interested in aesthetic consultation, I’d suggest starting with a consultation. Understanding yourself before deciding is better than impulsively scheduling treatments. Besides food and shopping, this trip included the experience of an aesthetic consultation, which felt like a new attempt and personal growth.
Overall, the space was clean, the staff were friendly, there was no pressure to buy anything, and the location was convenient, making it a reassuring experience. If I come to Seomyeon again, I would probably consider returning. The impression I left with was professional, gentle, and comforting.
