Perfume master class in the center of Bukchon

Olga
While walking around Bukchon, you can not only enjoy traditional architecture and beautiful views, but also take part in various workshops. One of these workshops is creating your own perfume.
Korea has a long-standing culture of creating and using perfumes for beauty and ancient religious ceremonies. Recently, such workshops for creating unique perfumes have become very popular in Korea. A perfect storm of emotional wellness, aesthetic expression, and self-care trends. One of the leaders is Greedy Scent. There are several different branches, but one of the most popular is the Bukchon branch.

I have long wanted to take part in the creation of my own perfume, and to visit this particular workshop. This branch is situated near the popular Bukchon Hanok Village and Gyeongbokgung Palace (1st floor, 12-1 Samcheong-ro 4-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul (서울 종로구 삼청로4길 12-1 1층)).
I reserved a time on Creatrip for quick and easy access. The site recently launched a wonderful membership option. It offers a variety of benefits, including discounts on various experiences.
The store is a remodeled Hanok, traditional Korean house, and has beautiful wooden accents. It’s a harmonious blend of modern and traditional Korea.

In response to the booming Korean perfume market and the growing demand for personalized, sensory experiences, Greedy Scent caters to both Koreans and international tourists and local residents. They offer language support in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
From the moment I walked in, the employee greeted me warmly. She started with a guide and explained the process. First, I'd slowly browse through 30 scents and choose the ones I liked best.

There are scents for every taste: floral, fresh, woody. I kept all the scents I liked and returned the ones I didn't like. By the end of the first round, I had 8 left. Now I had to narrow them down. In the end, I had six scents I needed. The perfume ultimately consists of three notes: top, middle, and base. For each, you need to choose two scents. I chose scents of the sea, apple, mandarin, moss, tonka nuts and rose wood.

Now with my six scents chosen, now I put one drop of each into a small cup, smelled, and then decided from there what I liked and what I wanted less of.

The second round, according to the employee, simply involved experimenting, adding more drops of one scent and less of another to see which combination and ratio of scents was most appealing. I added more tonka nutts, apple, and sea scent, and less of the more pungent scents.

By the end of the second round, I could already determine which top note I wanted, the base note, and what I needed a little more of. Then the staff member helped me calculate the final formula for the perfume. Then the process of creating the final fragrance began. It was wonderful to feel like a real perfumer.

I used a small cup and scale to measure out the essential oils in the correct proportions, then poured the mixture into a bottle and mixed it.

The employee quickly took the resulting mixture and returned with a magnificent bottle of perfume. The bottle also came with a box and a branded bag. I also got to keep the scent card with my own recipe that I can have it made when I finish this bottle should I want to.

I was also offered the opportunity to make a beautiful scented sachet from a sample of my perfume. What a great idea!

Whether visiting Korea as a tourist, or living here, finding one of these perfume making experiences is a great way to spend an afternoon. It's a very unique experience and worth to try while in Korea!
