Here is the step-by-step process of my eye laser surgery and recovery～
Attend Information Session
Through a friend's introduction, I attended an informational session held by Jiangnan Mingmu Eye Clinic. I had a detailed consultation with the director, who explained the principles of laser surgery, the surgical procedure, and post-operative precautions. This gave me a thorough understanding of the surgical process. I also hoped to have the director personally perform the surgery on the scheduled day, which made me feel more at ease, and the clinic agreed to arrange it. So I quickly set the date and booked my plane ticket.
Arrive on site after scheduling
After choosing a suitable time and completing all the necessary appointment work, everything went smoothly at the hospital on the day. The hospital is also very large. It happened to be during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, so there were many locals as well! At the counter, a Chinese interpreter will be arranged to accompany you throughout the entire process.
Chinese-speaking assistance throughout the inspection
The subsequent examination process was all conducted in Chinese by the medical staff, who provided detailed explanations of the eye examinations for you, including a vision test, eye pressure check, and corneal thickness measurement, to ensure I met the requirements for surgery. They also performed an oral epithelial cell test to rule out that 1% chance of health issues that could affect the surgery.
Doctor does final confirmation
After the examination, a professional doctor will check and consult with you again to confirm whether glasses can undergo the surgery, and will tell you the expected results and post-operative care instructions. This process gave me another opportunity to ask any questions, and also made me more confident about the surgery.
Undergoing surgery
After confirming that everything is ready, a staff member will lead a group of people into the operating room. There are more people getting eye surgery than expected. The procedure is faster than I imagined, and the discomfort only lasts about 10 seconds. The entire surgery is performed by the director, and a Chinese translator accompanies you throughout, so you can feel at ease.
Rest at the hotel after surgery
After the surgery, I immediately noticed an improvement in my vision. After returning to the hotel, my eyes initially felt dry and blurry, but there was no severe discomfort. This is a normal post-surgery reaction, and it gradually improved the next day.
Schedule a follow-up appointment the day after tomorrow
Two days after the surgery, I returned to the hospital for a follow-up appointment as scheduled. The director checked the condition of my eyes and confirmed that, except for dry eyes which require time to recover, my vision had recovered well to 1.0. I also received many boxes of artificial tears and complimentary sunglasses! The hospital has also prepared everything you need for follow-up care.
Normal route
After completing the follow-up examination, I felt that my vision was stable. For the next three days, I followed the scheduled itinerary as planned. Other than regularly applying eye drops, my eyes did not feel particularly uncomfortable. I was very satisfied with both the laser surgery process and the service. The Chinese interpreter explained everything very gently and carefully, which made me feel at ease. Now, the inconvenience of wearing glasses in daily life has greatly decreased.
