Gentle Moments in Jeju: A Day Meeting Teddy Bears 🧸

This trip to Jeju was originally to accompany the kids and help them relax. The list of places young people want to visit is long—cafés, beaches, and spots featured in Korean dramas are all packed into the schedule. For me, though, I had only a small wish: to visit the Teddy Bear Museum. I can't really say why; maybe it's because I've always hoped to hold on to something simple. When the kids were little, I always thought stuffed animals took up too much space. Now that they've grown up, I find myself wanting to step into a world full of bears.

The moment I walked into the museum, I couldn't help but smile. Dozens of teddy bears, big and small, were standing there as if welcoming us.

I remember many years ago taking my kids to the department store, picking out stuffed animals for the first time. Back then, I would worry about the price and remind them to be careful not to get them dirty. It's different now—I just feel that these bears in front of me are simply cute and make people feel at ease. The kids still insisted I take pictures with the bears. At first, I felt a bit embarrassed, but in the end, I stood next to the giant bear and we took a few slightly awkward but very precious photos.
The exhibits inside are actually more interesting than I expected. The designer replaced the main characters in famous paintings, etc., with teddy bear characters, so the bears 'stand in' as the protagonists. There are also Jeju haenyeo bears and mermaid bears. Watching those little dolls seriously mimic grand scenes, I suddenly felt an indescribable emotion in my heart. Isn’t life like this too? Scene after scene is performed, different people appear, sometimes in glory, sometimes in embarrassment, but as long as you can keep a little bit of innocence in your heart, it never feels too heavy.

What I like most is the atmosphere inside. In most museums, you usually have to be quiet and you can't touch anything, but here it's completely different. Adults and kids are all laughing together, everyone helps each other take photos, and I even saw grandparents holding hands, stopping at each exhibit area to take pictures together. That kind of scene feels so warm. Our family also took a lot of group photos, and the kids insisted on taking 'artsy' pictures of me. But every time I laughed, the photos turned out blurry. Still, I think that's even better, because the laughter in the photos is real.
They used to be the little kids holding my hand, but now they’ve started complaining that I walk too slowly and laugh at my photo angles. But then I think, being able to travel together as a family like this is already something very precious. In the middle of life’s journey, nothing is happier than still being able to make memories with family.
Many people say that the Teddy Bear Museum is just a tourist attraction and nothing special. But after walking through it, I felt that this place is more meaningful than I expected. It doesn’t just display cute stuffed animals—it reminds us that no matter how old we are, we can still keep a bit of childlike wonder. Even a fifty-year-old mom can smile like a child because of a bear. The value of travel isn’t really about how many sights you see, but about finding what’s missing in your heart in those unexpected moments.
By the time I left the museum, my phone was already filled with photos. Although some of the angles were a bit crooked and the people were often laughing uncontrollably, I know these snapshots will be the gentlest proof in my future memories. The scenery in Jeju is beautiful, but that day, surrounded by bears, what I saw was an even rarer sight—a family together, pure laughter, and that long-lost sense of childlike innocence.
I think that if I have the chance to come to Jeju again in the future, I will still step into the world of Teddy Bears once more. Because some happiness doesn’t need a reason—as long as your heart can still be touched, it’s worth seeking again and again.
