Seoul. Just the name conjures up images of bustling markets, K-Pop beats, and ancient palaces. My recent trip to this dynamic capital was everything I imagined and so much more. From the moment I landed at Incheon Airport, the efficiency and friendliness of the Korean people were immediately apparent. Navigating the Airport Railroad (AREX) into the city was a breeze, setting the tone for a smoothly run adventure.My first few days were dedicated to immersing myself in Seoul's rich history. Gyeongbokgung Palace, with its majestic architecture and sprawling courtyards, transported me back to the Joseon Dynasty. I was lucky enough to witness the changing of the guard ceremony, a vibrant display of tradition and precision.
Wandering through the Bukchon Hanok Village felt like stepping into a living museum, the beautifully preserved traditional houses whispering tales of centuries past. I even had the chance to peek inside a few tea houses, savoring the delicate flavors and tranquil atmosphere.
To contrast the historical charm, I plunged into the vibrant energy of Myeongdong. This shopping mecca was a sensory overload in the best possible way. From high-end cosmetics to trendy fashion and an endless array of street food, there was something to captivate every interest.
I remember being mesmerized by the sheer variety of face masks and trying (and failing slightly) to resist the tempting aromas wafting from the food stalls. Sampling tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and gyeranppang (egg bread) became a delicious daily ritual.
A personal highlight was my visit to the N Seoul Tower. Riding the cable car up Namsan Mountain offered stunning panoramic views of the sprawling cityscape, especially breathtaking at sunset as the city lights began to twinkle. The love lock bridge at the top was a charming sight, a testament to the many romantic stories held within its padlocks.
Sipping a coffee at the cafe while gazing at the illuminated Seoul skyline was a truly unforgettable experience. Beyond the main attractions, I also sought out some of Seoul's hidden gems. Exploring the Ihwa Mural Village, with its colorful street art and whimsical installations, was a delightful surprise. Getting lost in the maze-like alleys and discovering new artworks around each corner felt like a treasure hunt. The vibrant atmosphere and creative energy of the area were infectious. No trip to Korea would be complete without indulging in the incredible food scene. From traditional Korean BBQ, where you grill your own meat at the table surrounded by an array of delicious banchan (side dishes), to comforting bowls of bibimbap and the explosion of flavors in kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), every meal was a culinary adventure. I even took a Korean cooking class, learning the secrets behind some of my favorite dishes – a truly hands-on and rewarding experience.

Master the subway: Seoul's subway system is efficient, clean, and a cost-effective way to get around. Download a subway app to help navigate the lines and consider purchasing a T-money card for easy payment.
Embrace the "ppalli-ppalli" (hurry-hurry) culture: Koreans tend to do things quickly, from walking to serving food. Embrace the fast-paced rhythm and you'll fit right in.
Learn basic Korean phrases: While many younger Koreans speak English, knowing a few basic phrases will be greatly appreciated and can enhance your interactions with locals.
Be prepared for all types of weather: Seoul experiences distinct seasons, so pack accordingly. Summers can be hot and humid, while winters are cold and can be snowy. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful foliage.
