Gangnam BrightEyeClinic-BrightEyeClinic-BrightEyeClinic-Korea-Smile Laser Eye Surgery for Myopia

MINGJU CHEN

This time I went to South Korea for Smile laser vision correction surgery, and I am really very satisfied so far
Feeling the happiness and joy of not needing to wear glasses
Everyone around said, why do it in Korea? What if there are problems afterward?
Do I need to fly back to South Korea for a follow-up appointment?
I can only say that these are not problems, because it is truly worth it after completing

First, let's talk about why you want to undergo laser eye surgery for nearsightedness.
During the New Year, I got a new pair of glasses for $800 because my nearsightedness worsened. People around me said the price was too exaggerated and suggested laser surgery instead. Plus, everyone was sharing the benefits of laser surgery from their friends' experiences. However, since it's an eye surgery, I'm still a bit worried and have been observing.
Later, I saw a post on creatrip about laser eye surgery, and the editor's personal experience and sharing were very appealing because the editor's degree and astigmatism are similar to mine. Plus, the price is much different compared to Taiwan, and there is also Chinese translation, so I made an appointment with a friend on creatrip.Gangnam Myungmo Eye Clinic BrightEyeClinic밝은눈안과.
A week before the appointment, a colleague from 明目眼科 will contact you via email to confirm the appointment time and provide important instructions. I personally find this very considerate, and it makes me feel much more at ease with this clinic.
Preoperative Preparation
1. Stop wearing soft contact lenses 7 days before the appointment date. Stop wearing hard contact lenses 2 weeks before the examination (wear regular glasses on-site).
2. Prepare sunglasses (my friend and I think they are very necessary)
3. On the day of the surgery, please avoid using perfume, wearing makeup, applying sunscreen, or BB cream; it is recommended to only apply general lotion or moisturizer.
4. If you have makeup, it must be removed before the procedure.

Because we have to wear glasses for seven days before going abroad, we decided to have the surgery the day after arriving in Korea, so we can take beautiful photos in the following days.
So this time the plan is for a five-day, four-night trip,

The transportation to Mingmu Ophthalmology is very convenient. Right next to Exit 8 of Sinseol-dong Station on Line 9 is the Kyobo Building. Below are the transportation methods.
Transportation:
Address: Kyobo Tower, 15th Floor, 465 Gangnam-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul

The 15th floor is all Mingmu Ophthalmology. Upon arrival, the receptionist confirmed our names and immediately a young lady who speaks Chinese came to guide us. This point was also mentioned when we made the appointment, indicating that on-site Chinese translation would be automatically provided. This was the most crucial reason for me to choose laser surgery in Korea. From pre-surgery consultation to post-surgery procedures, the young lady provided close translation services, which was very reassuring.
Surgical Procedure
1. Pre-operative detailed examination takes about 1.5 hours; general examination, medication instructions, post-operative consultation, etc. take about 1.5 hours; surgery takes about 10 to 15 minutes, totaling about 4 to 5 hours.
2. Preoperative examination (including myopia degree, corneal thickness, intraocular pressure, etc., and besides surgery-related examinations, eye diseases will also be checked) Each examination will be explained, and when introducing the plan, they will confirm with us if we have any questions after the explanation
3. Provide a post-surgery checkup results booklet, and also confirm with them that this booklet can be taken directly to Taiwan Ophthalmology, informing them of the surgery performed for reference.
4. The doctor examined me and confirmed that I could undergo all the surgeries. My corneal thickness is normal, and I don't have dry eyes. However, because my nearsightedness is almost 600, I decided to do Triple Smile. Vitamin and collagen were used for corneal strengthening.
5. Before the surgery, the procedure, risks, and process were explained continuously, and a consent form was signed. Post-surgery eye drops, including antibiotics, steroids, artificial tears, and a sleep eye shield similar to swimming goggles, were provided.
6. The place for surgery and examinations is different, but they are on the 17th floor of the same building. Before the surgery, someone will guide you, help you change into surgical attire, store your belongings, confirm your identity, disinfect your eyes, and proceed with the surgery. The entire process is very fast. To prevent you from moving or grabbing things out of fear during the surgery, they will provide a doll when you are on the operating table, which is very cute.
7. After the surgery, go downstairs, put on sunglasses, and go straight home
8. We scheduled a follow-up appointment for the next day

Postoperative Instructions
1. Be careful not to rub your eyes (you can use the eye mask provided by the clinic when sleeping at night)
2. The prescribed steroid and antibiotic eye drops should be applied every two hours on the first day, with at least a two-minute interval between doses. From the next day, switch to applying them in the morning, afternoon, evening, and before bed, continuing for one week.
3. Use artificial tears regularly to keep your eyes moist
Postoperative Impressions
Feeling very nervous when I first went into the operating room, but the speed was very fast. Although my eyes had a bit of a watery mist after the surgery, what I could see at that moment was already clearer than my nearsighted vision without glasses. I was really a little touched at that moment. After the surgery, my eyes felt sore and stinging. Taking the subway back with my friend, my eyes were so sore I could hardly keep them open, but using artificial tears helped a lot. I strongly suggest going directly home after the surgery to rest well because I felt a foreign body sensation after getting home and started to have a strong stinging sensation, but as long as I used artificial tears, it became much more comfortable immediately. However, the symptoms improved significantly after 3 hours, and I could go out almost immediately. The next day, my vision nearly recovered during the follow-up visit. I measured my vision: left eye 0.8/right eye 0.9. The doctor said the surgery was very successful during the follow-up, and with good care, everything would be fine. They also provided a proof of visit on the same day. From then on, just use artificial tears well and avoid letting the eyes get too dry, and life can really return to normal. For several days after the surgery, I was very touched every day. No longer afraid of forgetting to take out contact lenses or unable to see the TV clearly after applying a face mask without them. All I can say is that it really felt great after the surgery.
My friend's and my itinerary is as follows
First Day: Arrive in Korea
Day 2: Early in the morning, Smlie LASIK surgery for nearsightedness. The surgery ends around noon. Directly return to the hotel to rest, then go out in the evening.
Day 3: Go out and have fun after the follow-up visit
Day Four: Travel Itinerary
Day Five: Return to Taiwan
