Songnisan Mountain is said to have been called Gubongsan Mountain (九峯山) because its nine consecutive peaks, including Cheonwangbong Peak, Birobong Peak, Gilsangbong Peak, Gwaneumbong Peak, Sujeongbong Peak, Bohyeonbong Peak, Munsubong Peak, and Myobong Peak, are curved like a bow.
