This is a unique place to visit. There is a sadness and eerie quality that is ever present. The information and facilities are really good, very clean and modern.
Gazing through the party as you go binoculars to see North Korea with your own eyes is a strangely fascinating experience.
To look out on this beautiful coastline that is just a desolate razor wire protected wasteland seems to really demonstrate the futility of war and the terrible separation of Korea.

Impressive to see North Korea from afar and the beautiful ocean still caressing the coast of the lands. Hard to swallow that the two Koreas remain enemies due to land partition of bigger players after WWII followed by a civil war - for which families and descendant still remain apart from each other nowadays.
One of South Korea’s school songs still talks about the Diamond mount that can be seen from the observatory as to have 12000 peaks and being the most beautiful in the whole of Korea.

This tower is very close to the Korean border. It has great views to the seas and mountains between North and South Korean. To get there there is a small hike, totally doable even for families with small kids.

From the observatory, you can see North Korea via a telescope. There's also the road and trail tracks that connects them that is no longer in use. Inside, there are letters and notes of the South Korean people hoping for reunification (made me teary eyed). There's also very interesting propaganda pieces from both countries that were distributed just after the division.
This is a beautiful observatory situated beside the stunning East Sea. This made me hopeful for the reunification of this divided country.

You can't go straight to the observation, you need first to register by the checkpoint. That will cost you 11,000 won to go by car.
There is not much at the observation as you see in North Korea, but it's not as easy to perceive, but the experience is strange and unique.
Close to the observation, you have a souvenir shop, coffee shop, restaurant and a museum about war.
