If you go up past the main gate and pavilion of Seonunsa Temple, you will see a signpost. From here, if you go up in the direction of Maijae, you will reach the Maijae hiking trail. If you go uphill to Maijae, it is a ridge from Maijae. You can reach the ridge and climb up slowly. It's not overly difficult. If you look down from the top of Suribong, you can see a good view.5

I've been to Seonunsa Temple before because it's such a famous temple, but this is my first time hiking there.
Perhaps because there was rain in the forecast, there were few hikers.
The shortest route to Suribong, the summit of Seonunsan Mountain, is to climb the road next to the right wall before going to Seonunsa Temple.
It takes about 2 hours to see the summit and come back down.~^^
It was originally called Dosolsan Mountain, but its name was changed to Seonunsan Mountain as Seonunsa Temple, founded during the Baekje period, became famous. Nearby, there are low mountains such as Guhwangbong (九皇峰: 298m), Gyeongsusan (鏡水山: 444m), Gaeipalsan (345m), and Cheongryongsan (314m). Although it is not very high, the beauty of the valley is outstanding and the forest is dense enough to be called the ‘Naegeumgang of the Honam’.
Major scenic spots include Nakjodae (落照臺) where you can see the sunset, Seonhakam (仙鶴岩), where a divine being came down on a crane to play, as well as famous landmarks such as Bongduam, Sajaam, Manwoldae, Cheonwangbong, Yeoraebong, Ingyeongbong, and Nojeokbong. There are many scenic spots.
In particular, Seonunsa Temple's camellia forest (Natural Monument 184), which begins to bloom in early April and reaches its peak in late April, is famous. The sight of more than 3,000 camellia trees growing on the hillside behind Seonunsa Temple in bloom is spectacular. .
In addition, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and azalea flowers are also worth seeing in the spring, and the maple leaves are beautiful in the fall. Jangsa Song (Natural Monument 354) in Samin-ri, Gochang, where the ancient temple Seonunsa Temple is located, and Songak (Natural Monument 367) at the entrance of Seonun Mountain are also famous. I went up to Course 1, which had the most things to see.
Since it was a weekday, parking was okay, and you have to use an unmanned ticket machine to get an admission ticket (4,000 won per adult). It's a Sangsanghwa festival starting September 17th.
It felt big and majestic, and the feeling of hiking would vary depending on the course. The hiking course is easy enough for beginners.
