Since 1973. Some people call it one of the top 5 bakeries in Korea. Have 5 more stores in Gwangju. Go for dinosaurs' egg, a sandwich that made this store super popular. KRW 2,500, which is about USD 2.

공룡빵 is the most famous bread here - egg and bits of pickled veg inside hollowed out bread. They do other nice things too!

This is considered a famous bakery in Gwangju. It has a variety of pastries, though I sometimes find I enjoy them less than other bakeries around town, though I can't put my finger on exactly why.
Perhaps it's the experience. The downtown store is quite small and cramped, so you have to wade through people in a small space. Perhaps it's the style of some pasteries or the presentation or the price -- some items seem small for what they cost.
Perhaps they are heavy on fried or overly stuffed with creams, and they sit heavy in the stomach. However, I can recommend the bulgogi pizza as both large, delicious and filling.
I tried the upstairs cafe for the first time last week. It was nice to have a place to eat some out of the cold.
They have a place to order drinks, but need to have someone to go from the ovens to the 2nd floor, which appears to be staffed only as needed.
Water was available, as were cutlery and scissors for cutting breads and pastry into manageable pieces. The little historical gallery was cute and interesting as well.
As I said, it was not actively staffed, though it was fairly busy. They probably needed to focus on the bakery downstairs, however cleanliness was a slight issue. Mostly crumbs on the floor, so nothing too serious.
Good for a quickish snack, but not the best for a liesurly coffee--unless you want to feel cramped.
