The Joseon Royal Tombs comprise 40 royal tombs where kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty and the Korean Empire are laid to rest, and they were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009.
Based on Confucian principles and the ideas of feng shui, the royal tombs, ritual spaces, and natural landscapes were designed in harmonious balance.
