⛰️Seoraksan National Park
Seoraksan covers 400㎢ of protected wilderness, home to thousands of plant and animal species and some of the most striking mountain scenery in Korea.
The park is divided into three regions based on its major ridgelines: Naeseorak (Inner Seorak), Oeseorak (Outer Seorak), and Namseorak (Southern Seorak). The Dinosaur Ridge, Yonga Jangseong, and Ulsanbawi Rock areas are known for their dramatic rock formations, while valleys like Sibiseonnyeotang, Gugokdam, and Cheonbuldong feature waterfalls, pools, and deep gorges.
Seoraksan is designated as a Natural Monument Protection Area, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and a National Park, making it one of Korea's most ecologically and scenically significant destinations.
🚩Recommended Trekking Route: Ulsanbawi Rock
- Seorak-dong Visitor Support Center → Sinheungsa Temple → Heundeulbawi (Rocking Rock) → Ulsanbawi Rock
- One way 3.8km | Approx. 2 hours
The Ulsanbawi Rock trail is one of Seoraksan's most iconic routes. From the top, you get views across the East Sea, the city of Sokcho, and Daecheongbong Peak.
The stretch from the trailhead to Heundeulbawi is mostly gentle valley trail. Along the way, you can stop at Anyangam, Naewonam, and Gyejoam Hermitages. Spring brings clear valley views, and autumn turns the rocky peaks into some of the best fall foliage scenery in Korea.
The section from Heundeulbawi to Ulsanbawi involves steep stairs and a significant incline, so check your fitness level before heading up. At the top, the views over Ulsanbawi's rock formations and the surrounding park make the climb worth it.
