โฐ๏ธOdaesan National Park
Designated as Korea's 11th national park in 1975, Odaesan National Park sits at the heart of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range. It has long stood as a landmark destination and a center of Buddhist culture.
Birobong Peak (1,563 m) anchors the range, flanked by five peaks including Dongdaesan (1,434 m), Durobong (1,422 m), Sangwangbong (1,491 m), and Horyeongbong (1,561 m). These forested, gently rounded peaks keep the ridgeline soft and the trails approachable for hikers of nearly any age.
๐ฉRecommended Trekking Route | Birobong Course
- Sangwonsa Temple → Jungdae (Sajaam Hermitage) → Jeokmyeolbogung (sacred shrine enshrining Buddha’s relics) → Birobong Peak
- One way 3.5 km | About 1 hour 40 minutes
This route balances gentle slopes with just enough climb to feel like a real hike, making it Odaesan's most popular course.
The summit at Birobong Peak rewards you with wide open views, and along the way you'll pass thousand-year-old Buddhist sites including Sangwonsa Temple, Jungdae, and Jeokmyeolbogung. It works well as a half-day hike.
Only the final 400m before the summit climbs steeply. The rest of the trail stays gentle enough for most hikers, kids included.
