In celebration of Hanbok Culture, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Royal Culture Festival brings the beauty and lasting value of Hanbok to life through exhibitions, performances, hands-on experiences, and special events.

Put on a Hanbok, stroll through Gyeongbokgung Palace, and enjoy a special evening surrounded by people who share a love for Korea’s traditional clothing.

Tonight, tradition comes to life at Gyeongbokgung Palace.

To help make Hanbok culture part of everyday life, the Gyeongbokgung Hanbok Royal Banquet is open only to advance reservation holders who arrive wearing Hanbok.

  • Royal Stroll: A reenactment of a royal procession featuring the king, queen, crown prince, and crown princess in court attire.

② Exhibition Program

  • Sajeol Boksaek Jajang Yoram: A Guide to Royal Court Attire from Sunhwagung: An exhibition highlighting a record of seasonal clothing for court women written by Royal Consort Gyeongbin Kim, a consort of King Heonjong, the 24th king of Joseon.

③ Performance Programs

  • Fashion Talk Show “OOTD of the Joseon Royal Court”: A lecture-style talk show exploring the features and symbolism of royal court attire through the Hanbok worn by the king and queen.
  • Fashion Talk Show “Hanbok Fashion Show: Special Exhibition on Designer Lee Rija”: A lecture-style talk show tracing the history of modern Korean dress through major works by the late Lee Rija, a first-generation Hanbok designer.
  • Themed Performance “Gyeongbokgung Taepyeongjimu”: A performance celebrating the beauty of Hanbok through traditional dances such as Taepyeongmu and Hwagwanmu, along with original choreography.
  • National Heritage ASMR Concert “The Sounds of Making Hanbok”: An intimate performance spotlighting Hanbok-related sounds alongside demonstrations by intangible heritage practitioners.

  • Interactive Performance “Moonlight Gilnori”: A small parade featuring LED traditional Korean instruments, bringing the festival to a close together with the audience.

  • Hanbok DIY Zone “Hanbok Workshop”: Make Hanbok-inspired traditional culture products in collaboration with small businesses, local brands, and universities.
  • Saekdong Hanbok Experience “The Nth First-Birthday Celebration”: An experience inspired by Noraeui (老萊衣), the tradition of wearing colorful clothing again at age 60 to express filial devotion to one’s parents.
  • Traditional Hairstyling Experience “Gungyang: Joseon Royal Hair Salon”: Discover the royal hairstyles that represented Joseon court fashion while learning about the royal principle of moderation and avoiding extravagance.
