March 15th, President Moon made announcement to declare Daegu, Gyungsan, Cheongdo, Bonghwa as  "Special Disaster Area (특별재난지역)".

It was the first time in Korean history to designate "Special Disaster Area" because of a disease.

According to《Framework Act on Disaster Safety Management》central government is obliged to aid local government designated as special disaster area to overcoming the disaster. Central government will subsidize half of the reconstruction expense.

The Ministry of Finance will burden the living expenses, death and injury pension, and reduce electricity, insurance and other fees.

This is the dramatic measure was taken to aid Dagu and Gyeongbuk province which are responsible for 83% of total cases and 87% of the death from Coronavirus.



Daegu Closes Call Centers

Korea's three largest telecommunication companies, KT, SK and LG U+ will close all service centers and employees will work at home to prevent further infection.

SK Telecom will not operate the customer service center until the end of March. KT and LG U+ also followed SK to protect workers from Coronavirus infection.
