How much does food cost in Seoul?

KBBQ Korean barbeque budget for eating out in Seoul

The recommended way to calculate is to allow some leeway and budget 20,000 won per meal (20000)! However, some menu items can cost more than that. Below is a summary of average food expenses in Korea as a guideline.

Average Prices of Classic Dishes

Samgyeopsal (Pork KBBQ)₩16,000 (16000)
Beef bulgogi₩18,000 (18000)
Gukbap (Korean stew and rice)
₩10,000 (10000)

Jajangmyeon (Black bean noodles)₩8,000 (8000)

Generally, dishes that Koreans often eat, like gukbap or Korean food, cost around 10,000 won per meal. Familiar gimbap and Bibimbap are cheaper than that.

All-you-can-eat options in Korea come in many varieties and are reasonably priced! Grilled meat is especially recommended, and if you have a big appetite, all-you-can-eat deals are a great value.

Average cafe prices

Coffee (eat-in)₩6,000 (6000)
Dessert₩8,000 (8000)
Whole cake₩30,000 (30000)

In Korea, a slightly luxurious meal can cost 50,000–80,000 won per person, but if you enjoy everyday local eats like a Korean, you can have a satisfying meal for under 15,000 won each.

Editor's Tip: Personally, food is a big part of traveling. I think it's the best way of experiencing a foreign culture. So I like a good balance of budget meals and luxury. I get to experience the whole culinary spectrum of what it's to eat out like a local.

How much do you need for transportation?

Tmoney Creatrip Bus pass for traveling around seoul Korea

Subway₩1,550 (1550)
Bus₩1,500 (1500)
Taxi₩10,000 (10000)
~₩20,000

Plane (domestic)₩100,000~ (100000)
Airport bus₩18,000 (18000)

*Round-trip price including tax shown (check official site for actual fares)

Korea is already well known for having relatively cheaper transportation costs! Plus, you can transfer between subways and buses up to five times a day for free if each transfer is within 30 minutes (60 minutes between 9 PM and 7 AM).

However, if you’re traveling long distances or in a large group, using an airport bus or similar options is more cost-effective and comfortable, so I recommend it.

Editor's Tip: Get a T-money card the moment you land — you can buy one at any convenience store in the airport for ₩2,500–4,000. Load ₩20,000–30,000 and you'll be set for 3–5 days of subway and bus rides.

How much does it cost to use the internet in Korea?

How much do accommodations usually cost?

Hotel room at Mercure Ambassador Seoul Hongdae

Accommodation prices in Korea fluctuate a lot, and naturally the closer you are to a subway station the higher the going rate is, with room grades varying widely from about 100,000 to 300,000 won per night.

Of course, if you have extra budget or prefer to take it easy, choosing a luxury hotel is also a good option.

By the way, if you want to save as much as possible on accommodation, highly rated guesthouses are a good option. If you’re lucky you can find places for around 30,000 won per night.

Which neighborhoods are cheapest?

Where you stay matters as much as what type of room you book. Here's a quick comparison:

You can also book directly from our website, we got some awesome deals!

Editor's Tip: You don't have to stay in the most central area. One or two subway stops away from a hotspot often gives you a much lower room rate with barely any extra travel time. As long as you're near a subway station with convenience stores and restaurants nearby, you'll be fine.

FAQ — Korea Trip Budget Common Questions

How much does a 3-day, 2-night Seoul trip cost (excluding flights)?
For a basic budget trip, you can manage from around ₩155,000. A standard, comfortable trip typically runs ₩310,000–575,000. If you want nicer hotels and dining, expect ₩610,000–1,230,000. These figures don't include shopping.

Should I bring cash or can I use credit cards in Korea?
Seoul is very card-friendly — most restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and shops accept credit cards. Some even accept Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. That said, street food stalls, traditional markets, and some small eateries still prefer cash. For a short trip, having the equivalent of ₩50,000–150,000 in cash is usually enough.

How much should I budget for food per day?
If you eat at regular Korean restaurants and skip the cafes, ₩20,000–30,000 per day is doable. Add in a cafe visit and some snacks, and you're looking at ₩35,000–60,000. For BBQ, seafood, cafes, and desserts, budget ₩70,000–120,000+.

Should I get a SIM card, eSIM, or portable Wi-Fi?
For solo travelers, a SIM card or eSIM is the most convenient and cost-effective. For groups of 2+, a portable Wi-Fi device shared between everyone often works out cheaper. Roaming from your home carrier is the easiest but usually the most expensive.

Is tipping expected in Korea?
No. Tipping is not customary in Korea — not at restaurants, cafes, hotels, or in taxis. Some upscale international restaurants may include a service charge, but you don't need to add anything extra.

When is the cheapest time to visit Seoul?
Shoulder seasons — March–April (early spring, before cherry blossom peak) and late October–November (autumn) — tend to have the best balance of pleasant weather and reasonable prices. Avoid major Korean holidays like Chuseok and Lunar New Year, when accommodation and transportation prices spike.
