Our Visit
On the 3rd floor of Starfield Goyang, you can find Eatopia, the food court where Tantan Noodles Kitchen is located.
Tantan Noodles Kitchen is Korea's first Korean-style tan tan noodle restaurant and is the most famous and fast-selling hot spot for tan tan noodles. It's so popular that there are many franchises located all around the country!
The brand was created by someone who appeared on Master of Living, a Korean variety show that introduces experts who have worked in one field for decades and have reached a level of mastery through passion and effort. What's amazing is that he has been in the tan tan noodle-making business for 25 years!
He was also featured on other Korean variety shows such as Knowing Bros! I had really high expectations when I walked in.
Shall we look around the interior? Overall, wood and warm-colored lighting are used to create a traditional Asian, trendy atmosphere. It has an open kitchen where you can watch the food being prepared.
There was plenty of space inside the restaurant too. As the dinner rush times approached, the place became more crowded. EATOPIA is a food court, so you can order your food from any of the restaurants you like and choose a seat.
You can place your order at the cashier at the entrance. You can show them your Creatrip member coupon here and get two free fried dumplings!
When your bell vibrates, you can pick up your order and bring it to your seat.
Before we get to the food, I would like to talk about the bowl! The shape is very unique and beautiful and is bowl is made by the restaurant! The moon jar-shaped bowl is inspired by Joseon white porcelain, which helps protect the taste and temperature of the food inside, so you can enjoy your meal while savoring the taste and the warmth from start to finish. The bowl leans toward whoever is eating, so you don't need to worry about someone trying to steal your food.
Finally, our order was served. Since we visited with a group of people, we decided to order various foods and share them. There were so many types of tantan noodles that I have never seen before so I wanted to try them all. We ordered the Tan Tan Set for 1, which comes with tan tan noodles and soy sauce egg fried rice. We also ordered the Cheongyang Tan Tan Noodles, Mala Tan Tan Noodles, Tangy Bibim Tan Tan noodles, and the Pork Belly Rice Bowl. Of course, we redeemed our Creatrip coupon and got free Fried Minced Beef Dumplings too!
Tan Tan Set For 1 (1인 혼탄세트)
13,800 KRW
The Tan Tan Set for 1 comes with the most basic tan tan noodle dish and soy sauce egg rice. Green onions, meat, and a half-boiled egg are placed on top of the noodles. The soy sauce egg rice bowl is topped with seasoning made from their unique recipe.
First, we tried the meat with the rich broth. The soup was red, so I thought it would be very spicy, but it wasn't. The taste of the bone broth was deeper than its spices. The restaurant boils the broth for 72 hours Korean-style, so the flavor was amazing. There's a slightly nutty aftertaste as well, which added to the richness of the broth. It was so delicious!
Do you see the texture of the noodles? Tantan Noodle Kitchen uses noodles that contain a lot of moisture so it's a lot chewier. The noodles come with a thick, delicious broth and it comes in huge portions!
I personally really liked the soft-boiled egg inside the broth. The eggs are made with their secret recipe and it's boiled just right. It was the perfect balance between the firm egg white and jammy yolk. It was delicious to eat with the soup.
While eating your noodles, you can try the soy sauce egg rice. You have to mash the egg into small pieces and mix it all up before eating it.
I scooped out a large spoonful of the rice and ate it with the broth from the tan tan noodles. It tasted amazing with the broth!
Cheongyang Tantan Noodles (청양 탄탄면)
11,000 KRW
The Cheongyang Tan Tan Noodles are made with 1% of Cheongyang pepper from Cheongyang, Chungcheongnam-do. You can see how a special spicy sauce and chopped Cheongyang peppers are added to the basic noodle broth. Unlike the basic tan tan noodles, it also has some bean sprouts.
If you look at the soup, it contains some pork and peppers! It is a little spicier than the basic tan tan noodles and very delicious, thanks to the unique and refreshing taste of Cheongyang peppers.
Pick up some of the moist and chewy noodles with the crunchy bean sprouts and eat the, together. The combination of the two tasted so good together!
Mala Tantan Noodles (마라 탄탄면)
11,500 KRW
These noodles are unique tan tan noodles that add some more flavor to the basic tan tan noodles using mala seasoning. It's topped with bean sprouts and bok choy, which go well with the mala flavor. I was really looking forward to this!
When I had a sip of the broth, I immediately tasted the mala seasoning in my mouth. As malatang became popular in Korea, a lot of dishes started using this seasoning. Some of those dishes are made with other spicy seasonings, and the mala flavor is not very strong. But this dish had a rich flavor of mala seasoning that I loved!
I scooped up a lot of the noodles and ate it with boy choy. It was beyond delicious! If you like mala, be sure to try this dish.
Tangy Bibim Tan Tan Noodles (새콤비빔탄탄면)
10,000 KRW
This dish is perfect for a hot summer day, as it is a cold noodle dish. I was unfamiliar with it at first, but they said that this dish was just the original tan tan noodles made in the form of bibim noodles. This menu is a reinterpretation of the original tan tan noodles made to fit the taste buds of Koreans with eggs, pork, and green onions on top.
I mixed all the ingredients together and had a bite of it with some green onions. Unlike the basic tan tan noodles, this dish is made with a very sweet and sour sauce. The sauce had me reaching for more even though I was getting quite full. I think it will be a good choice if you want something light to fill your stomach.
Fried Minced Beef Gyoza (육고명튀김교자)
4,000 KRW
Lastly, we tried the fried dumplings, which were stuffed with plenty of meat inside! Creatrip members can get these fried dumplings for free when ordering the Tan Tan Set for 1 at 7 of their branches. This fried dumpling was way bigger than I thought it would be; it was about the size of the palm of my hand!
Inside of the deep-fried crispiness of the dumpling, there is juicy meat filled to the brim!
The best way to eat this dumpling is to cut it in half, eat one half as it is to enjoy its crispiness, and dip the other half in the tan tan noodle broth for extra flavor. You can enjoy two flavors at once! Lastly, here's the restaurant's recommendation for the best way to enjoy these dishes.
- Mix the green onions, noodles, and meat well while enjoying the scent of the tan tan noodles.
- Real tan tan noodle fans start with the broth!
- Enjoy the savory, deep flavors of the broth.
- Time for the noodles! Enjoy the delicious, fresh, and chewy noodles.
- Put the yolk of the half-boiled egg on your spoon and eat it with the broth.
- Cut the fried dumpling in half and let it cool a bit before eating it.
- Dip the other half of the fried dumpling in the noodle broth and eat it.
- After eating half of the noodles, pour the garlic sauce into the broth and mix well.
- Enjoy a different, richer taste of the noodles.
- After finishing the noodles, mix kimchi and rice in the broth.
- Scoop up all the garnishes that have sunk to the bottom of the bowl with the rice and finish your meal!
When you order their tantan noodles, it comes with a special garlic sauce. Even if you put a tiny amount in, the strong flavor of the garlic will change how the broth tastes. You can adjust the amount to your liking and enjoy. As mentioned above, if you decide to pour in a bit of this sauce in the middle of your meal, you can enjoy two different flavors of the broth.
Also, if you order tan tan noodles, you will also get a small-sized rice bowl to eat the remaining broth with after finishing your noodles. There are so many different ways to eat your noodles, right? There's a reason why Tantan Noodles Kitchen is popular, as you can enjoy a wide variety of tan tan noodles according to your preference! Stop by this restaurant if you want to try delicious tan tan noodles!
