The 'Healthy Pleasure' trend, combining health and enjoyment, has increased demand for decaf coffee in South Korea. Despite its growth, concerns arise due to less stringent caffeine removal standards compared to other countries like the EU and USA. South Korea allows coffee labeled as decaf if 90% of caffeine is removed, unlike the 97-99% standards elsewhere. This discrepancy means that decaf coffee still contains some caffeine, which might affect people sensitive to caffeine. Moreover, studies suggest that decaf coffee, which often uses Robusta beans rich in compounds that trigger fat production, could increase cholesterol levels and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis if consumed excessively.
