A new study suggests that eating more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli can reduce the risk of colon cancer. Chinese researchers analyzed data from 17 studies involving over 639,000 individuals and found that consuming these vegetables was linked to a 17% lower risk of colon cancer. The study highlights that as little as 20g of consumption per day can significantly reduce risk. Cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolate, which converts to cancer-fighting isothiocyanate in the body. However, the study's focus on North American and Asian participants suggests results may not be universally applicable. Experts stress the importance of diet management for cancer prevention.
