In South Korea, the government will resume a fruit snack program for elementary students next year. This initiative was initially introduced during the Moon Jae-in administration and discontinued under the Yoon Suk-yeol government. It will now be reinstated under President Lee Jae-myung's proposal, with the new program offering fruit snacks to first and second graders attending after-school care, known as 'Neulbom Schools'. About 600,000 students are expected to benefit. The budget is shared between the central government and local authorities. This program aims to improve students' dietary habits and provide nutritional benefits while reducing the administrative burden on schools by having pre-packaged fruit cups delivered directly.
