A solo exhibition titled 'Man-gong' by veteran ceramic artist Byun Seung-hoon is showcasing innovative moon jars made using the distinct Korean technique of buncheong pottery. Open until the 24th at Gana Art Center in Seoul, Byun's works merge buncheong and white porcelain to create unique mandala-patterned pieces. These intricate designs are created by layering clay to form moon jar shapes, applying paper cutouts, and a coating of slip, which are then fired to achieve the final appearance. Byun explains the jars represent the accumulation of time, echoing themes of emptiness. Complementing the exhibition is a piece titled 'Song of the Earth' from 2007, combining charcoal-drawn trees with a ceramic finish for a textured relief artwork.
