Binggrae Wins Appeal Against Seojeu Over Melon Bar Packaging Design

South Korean company Binggrae won the appeal in a lawsuit against competitor Seojeu, claiming they copied the packaging design of their popular ice cream 'Melona'. Binggrae stated that their investment and effort in Melona's packaging design have led to its recognition, and argued that Seojeu's 'Melon Bar' packaging was misleadingly similar. Binggrae had launched Melona in 1992, while Seojeu's Melon Bar was introduced in 2014. Binggrae aims to protect the brand identity of Melona as a flagship product of K-ice cream (Korean ice cream culture).
