Cold Wave Hits, Yet Gangwon Ski Resorts See Tourist Surge

Despite a cold wave hitting Gangwon province, ski resorts in the area have seen a surge of tourists, benefiting the winter tourism industry greatly. Despite a cold wave warning with temperatures dropping below -15°C (5°F) in parts, resorts like High1, Elysian Gangchon, and Phoenix Snow Park reported thousands of visitors. Other winter attractions, including the 2025 Taebaek Winter Festival at Taebaeksan National Park, also drew significant crowds. The cold wave is expected to continue until February 11th, with temperatures forecasted to remain much lower than usual.
