The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology has developed a new molten metal catalyst that improves hydrogen production from methane, achieving a conversion rate increase of up to 36.3%. This innovation uses liquid catalysts to overcome the limitations of traditional solid catalysts, maintaining performance for over 100 hours. The technology represents a significant step in producing 'turquoise hydrogen', a clean form of hydrogen generated from methane without emitting CO₂. By enhancing methane thermolysis efficiency, this catalyst could contribute to carbon-neutral goals. Further research aims to commercialize the technology by 2030.
