Jeju Island is looking for new masters and artisans to preserve its fading traditional food culture. From August 4 to 29, applications for designation as a master, artisan, or trainee in the field of traditional Jeju cuisine, as well as new applications for authentic local cuisine restaurants, will be accepted. Masters must possess the highest level of tradition, cooking methods, and value in their field. Artisans are recognized for their top-level skills in specific areas and contribution to the development of local cuisine. Currently, there are 3 masters and 6 artisans active in Jeju. The designation involves expert reviews and field evaluations, with final decisions made by the Jeju Traditional Food Promotion Committee in December. Selected individuals and restaurants receive support for education, participation in tasting events, and online promotional content creation.
