As the summer vacation season approaches, a recurring problem in South Korea's domestic travel industry is the issue of 'overpricing' (charging excessively high prices) at popular travel destinations. This has led to a decrease in interest among local tourists. For example, incidents on Ulleungdo, a remote island, reported by a travel YouTuber, have highlighted overpriced and poor service scenarios. Similarly, high accommodation prices in Busan during the upcoming fireworks festival have sparked criticism. Previously, Jeju Island faced a decline in visitors due to similar controversies. Nevertheless, efforts to remedy these issues, such as price reductions in Jeju’s dining establishments, show a potential recovery in tourism. However, consumer perceptions, quickly influenced by social media, remain a critical risk factor.
