Mungyeong City in South Korea has been granted the international certification as a 'Ramsar Wetland City.' This title is awarded by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands to cities or towns that are located near Ramsar-designated wetlands and exhibit exemplary community involvement in wetland conservation and wise use. Mungyeong became a candidate in a national competition in September 2023 and received the final approval in January 2024. The official certificate will be presented at the Ramsar Convention's Conference in Zimbabwe in July. There are currently seven Ramsar Wetland Cities in South Korea, with Mungyeong being the latest addition. Mayor Shin Hyung-guk expressed gratitude to the community and emphasized efforts towards developing Mungyeong into an international eco-friendly city.
