North Korean-based travel agency Koryo Tours has begun accepting applications for the 2024 Pyongyang International Marathon, offering a 50% discount for early registration by September 1st. The marathon, held annually since 1981 to commemorate Kim Il Sung's birthday on April 15th (Day of the Sun), was canceled for five consecutive years due to COVID-19 but resumed this year. North Korea seeks to expand tourism as a means of earning foreign currency without violating sanctions. Entry fees vary: $150 for the full marathon, $100 for the half marathon, and $70 for the 10km and 5km distances.
