Chobok Samgyetang Price Rises by 35% in Traditional Markets

As 'Chobok' (the first of the three hottest summer days in Korea) approaches, the cost of purchasing ingredients for Samgyetang, a traditional Korean chicken soup, has increased significantly. A survey indicates that the total cost for ingredients in a traditional market is now 36,260 KRW for four servings, making it approximately 9,000 KRW per serving—35% higher than five years ago. The prices of key ingredients like young chicken, glutinous rice, garlic, and green onions have risen due to heatwave-induced poultry deaths and increased seasonal demand.
