South Korean pianists Son Min-soo and Lim Yun-chan, sharing a mentor-student bond, debuted as a piano duo at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul on October 14. Their relationship began when Lim joined the Korea National University of Arts under Son's guidance in 2017. Despite Son moving to the New England Conservatory in 2023, their relationship remains strong, marked by mutual respect and artistic collaboration. Their concert featured Bramhs' and Rachmaninoff's sophisticated compositions requiring intricate coordination and individual expression. The duo's musical synchronization was evident, showcasing competitive yet harmonious artistry, further amplified by a contemporary adaptation of Strauss's work by emerging composer Lee Ha-neul. Their successful performance in Seoul will extend to Europe later this month. The concert attracted significant attention and was sold out early.
