Asan, located in Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, offers diverse attractions perfect for a day trip from the Seoul metropolitan area. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the 150-meter-tall Green Tower, originally a waste incineration plant. The tower also houses a restaurant and offers a view of the surrounding areas, including Gokgyo Stream. Nearby is the Ecological Insect Center with interactive exhibits, as well as the Jang Young Sil Science Center, where visitors can learn about a famous Joseon-era scientist and see historical inventions.
The World Flower Botanical Garden, featuring a massive pyramid greenhouse, provides a warm indoor space filled with various plants and flowers year-round. A significant highlight includes three large Bodhi trees from Thailand.
Visitors interested in traditional Korean culture can explore the Oeam Folk Village, which preserves the appearance of a late Joseon village, with over 60 traditional houses, including the notable residence affiliated with scholar Kim Jeong-hui.
For an international flair, the Mediterranean Village in Asan's Tangjeong-myeon showcases European-style architecture, reminiscent of Santorini and Provence.
Asan is accessible by train via the Onyangoncheon Station or Inju Station, with bus connections available to various locales.
