North Korea has officially opened its coastal resort, Wonsan-Kalma Tourist District, to foreign visitors, starting with Russian tourists. The resort, designed with inspiration from Benidorm (a Spanish holiday city), aims to attract over a million foreign tourists annually. Despite high travel costs of $1800 per person, Russian tour agencies are scheduling trips to the resort. The resort is part of North Korea's strategy to boost its tourism industry and strengthen economic ties with Russia amidst international sanctions. However, experts remain skeptical about its popularity compared to established vacation destinations like Turkey and Thailand.
