Original Birkin Bag Sells for $137 Million at Auction

The original Birkin Bag once owned by late British singer and actress Jane Birkin sold for approximately $137 million at an auction in Paris by Sotheby's. This bag, created in collaboration with Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas, has become a cultural icon and fetched the highest price ever for a handbag auction. Jane Birkin was a prominent figure in France during the 1960s to 1980s and passed away in July 2023. Initially created as a special gift for Birkin, the bag was sold for AIDS charity in 1994.
