Jeju Seongnae Church, established in 1908, served as the base for Korean missionary Yi Gi-pung, who faced initial hostility and danger upon his arrival to spread Christianity in Jeju. The church symbolizes a significant effort of "Korean by Koreans for Koreans" missionary work, following the Pyongyang Great Revival of 1907. Despite cultural resistance and threats, Yi dedicated himself to community service and evangelism, significantly contributing to the growth of Christianity in Jeju. The church played a key role in local independence movements and continued expanding, marking Jeju's Protestant origins with enduring influence and pride among its members.
