Uljin's Geumgang Pine Mountainous Agricultural System in South Korea has been recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the FAO. This system involves traditional agriculture harmonized with the pristine Geumgang pine forest, a 500-year-old ecosystem. It thrived on the cultivation and protection of pine forests while utilizing natural resources for sustainable mountain agriculture. Such practices include harvesting forest herbs and cultivating mountain vegetables. Uljin now joins five other regions in Korea that hold the status of GIAHS.
