Despite a challenging start to the year due to economic measures and an airline crisis, travel sentiment in South Korea is experiencing a revival. The number of international passengers at Korean airports from January to June reached over 46 million, surpassing the previous high in 2019. This surge is largely attributed to relaxed visa restrictions and increased travel to long-haul destinations like China, Japan, and the US. Travel agencies, which faced declining profits in the first quarter, are hopeful for a rebound with the turn in consumer confidence and upcoming holiday seasons. However, most of the growth in travelers is from independent trips, posing challenges for package tours typically favored by older travelers. Despite these hurdles, the industry remains optimistic about the peak travel season's potential to boost revenues.
