During the May 1980 Gwangju Uprising in South Korea, citizens, including high school students like Park Geum-hee, participated in selfless acts of solidarity to help the injured amid the military crackdown. Park, a student from Jeonnam Girls' Commercial High School, was shot by martial law troops after donating blood at Gwangju Christian Hospital.
