Young Koreans in their 20s and 30s are increasingly interested in Pyongyang cold noodles, a traditional Korean dish made from buckwheat noodles and cold broth. This dish has become a culinary experience with online 'Pyongyang noodle lists' and is shared extensively online. Seeing a rise in popularity, major department stores like Shinsegae and Lotte World Mall have introduced renowned noodle shops. While the dish is considered a part of the retro trend, its symbolic value has increased after being featured at the 2018 North-South Korea summit and listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022. Despite the high prices, interest remains high, partly due to the desire for unique culinary experiences and the influence of social media and celebrities. Packaged home versions are also gaining popularity amid the rising prices at restaurants.
