In Gangwon Province, South Korea, a heatwave has driven temperatures up to 39°C in Samcheok, leading many to escape to the beach to cool off. Over the weekend, approximately 130,000 people visited 23 beaches in cities like Gangneung, Sokcho, and Goseong. Despite the intense sun, some prefer the cooler evening hours at beaches like Gyeongpo, as nighttime temperatures are equally stifling. In particular, Gangneung has experienced a week straight of tropical nights, where temperatures don't drop below 25°C, encouraging some to sleep on the sand. The heat is predicted to continue, with warnings in place for further extremes due to weather conditions.
