Step on the Mesh: Reimagining Sculpture at Leeum Museum

Leeum Museum in Seoul is hosting the 'Contemporary Art Collection' exhibition featuring 'Walking Sculpture' by Carl Andre. This installation, composed of 81 copper and iron plates, invites visitors to step on it and become part of its mythological narrative. Titled 'The Mesh of Hephaestus', the sculpture references the Greek god of blacksmiths who crafted tools and weapons for gods and humans. Andre's work challenges minimalism by integrating ancient mythological themes and urging interaction through touch as visitors unexpectedly 'step into the trap'. The exhibition celebrates 60 years of the Samsung Foundation of Culture with works by 35 artists, including notable pieces from both Korean and international contemporary art scenes.
