South Korea Allows Small-Scale Production of Distilled Soju and Whiskey from July

Starting from July, South Korea will allow young entrepreneurs to start small-scale distillation businesses, including distilled soju (a traditional Korean liquor) and whiskey, with lower capital requirements. The government aims to reduce market entry barriers and promote competition in the liquor industry. The National Tax Service has also relaxed regulations on production standards and export support to help local beer and liquor makers. Additionally, the amendment removes the requirement for home-use labeling for paper-packaged and plastic bottled soju and beer, simplifying procedures for popular drinks like highballs. This initiative is expected to stimulate the domestic liquor industry and increase export opportunities.
