Foreign Tourists Return to South Korea: Over 7.2 Million Visitors by May

Foreign tourists visiting South Korea are showing a strong recovery, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The Korea Tourism Organization reported that 1,629,387 foreign tourists visited South Korea in May, a 14.9% increase from the previous year, and a 9.7% increase compared to May 2019. Chinese tourists ranked the highest with 484,390 visitors, followed by Japan, Taiwan, USA, and the Philippines. Notably, visitors from Taiwan, USA, and the Philippines increased significantly compared to 2019. The total number of foreign visitors from January to May reached 7,206,747, marking a 14.7% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, outbound South Korean travelers numbered 2,391,130 in May, almost reaching the levels of 2019.
