This year, South Korea has experienced unusual weather patterns with frequent rainfalls, affecting outdoor activities and consequently impacting tourism and retail sales. Theme parks like Everland saw a 10% decrease in weekend attendance due to increased rainy days compared to last year. Convenience stores typically see high sales in summer, but this season's cooler temperatures and rainy days have led to a decline in sales, especially for outdoor stores like those located near the Han River.
Conversely, indoor venues such as shopping malls have seen an increase in visitors as people shift their leisure activities indoors. For example, Starfield malls reported a 10% rise in visitor numbers during rainy weekends, and other major shopping centers like Lotte World Mall and The Hyundai Seoul also saw increased foot traffic. The weather has led to adaptability in retail strategies with expectations of a rebound in sales during potential hot summer days.
