Early Summer Heatwave Attracts Tourists to Gangwon's Top Mountains

Due to a heatwave alert across Gangwon's regions, especially in southern mountainous and Yeongseo (western parts of Gangwon province), an influx of early summer tourists has been observed. Families and tourists flocked to main rivers and recreational areas, enjoying day trips and camping. Significant crowds, over 15,000 people, visited Gangwon’s four main national mountains for hiking. Meanwhile, cities like Gangneung on the east coast saw tourists at the beaches, and cycling enthusiasts gathered in Jeongseon for national bicycle competitions. With temperatures reaching as high as 34.9°C in some areas, inquiries and reservations for camping sites have surged.
