A New Nation Needs New Art: 691 Pieces of Joseon Period Art on Display

The National Museum of Korea in Seoul is hosting the exhibition "New Nation, New Art: Early Joseon Art." This exhibition displays 691 artifacts from the 15th and 16th centuries, including National Treasures and Treasures, featuring beautiful white porcelain (baekja), ink paintings, golden Buddha statues, and Hunminjeongeum (the Korean script). It reflects the cultural evolution during the early Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), showcasing 200 years of art transformation with pieces like porcelain vases and landscape paintings. A key highlight is the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon, a book explaining the principles of the Korean script devised by King Sejong in 1446. The exhibit explores different artistic expressions such as porcelain, ink paintings representing Neo-Confucian ideals, and Buddhist art despite the adoption of Confucianism over Buddhism in the Joseon era. Don't miss monumental works like the black-and-white landscape paintings and the revered Buddha statues. Open until August 31.
